Doing It Wrong at SXSW

Tal and I are giving a talk about technology in hacker spaces at sxsw called "Doing It Wrong." Here's the deets:

Like ninjas battling on stage, Bre Pettis and Tal Chalzin will volley projects demonstrations back and forth. From guitar player robots to machines that vomit plastic skulls, the presentation will include a mix of projects they've worked on and that have been worked on at the GarageGeeks, NYCResistor and beyond. This presentation will both thrill and repulse you with the possibilities that have recently emerged in the diy hacker technology space.

It's been great to go through the NYCR blog and mine all the wonderful projects that have come through NYCResistor. Good times.

I'll also be talking at Dorkbot tomorrow night. I'm really looking forward to that too!

Electronics Are In! (almost…)

Hard at work programming

Today we received a partial shipment of electronics at the BotCave! Unfortunately, we only received the extruder controllers so we’re still waiting on the RepRap motherboards. Widget and Matt are seen here programming the extruders to be ready to ship as soon as we receive the motherboards. Ahhh, the sweet smell of progress!

Part of the 'Plasticity - 100 years of making plastics' Exhibition at London Science Museum. The Fab@Home printer is on display with a video of a torch being printed but the RepRap project is also mentioned. This exhibit opened nearly 3 years ago, since then 3D printing has taken off big time, Fab@Home is now one of several designs out there including the RepRap Darwin, RepRap Mendel, MakerBot, RapMan, ShaperCube and many RepStrap designs.
